HISTORY: September 21, 2008
In early February of 2008, while we began planning the 2008 Deer Creek Cruising Classics, we determined that we needed to Incorporate the business due to a growing issue over IRS reporting that had not been completed by past volunteers who had been organizing the event in the absence of Thomas W. Rogers. Since the Village of Deer Creek Illinois had been advertising this event on their community web site as an annual event, and past years had very little contact with the Village Board concerning the events, it was determined not to file a formal request. Instead we made the decision to just keep forwarding email updates to the Deer Creek Village Clerk for the Village Board's review.
Without notice of issues in most of August, after repeated email updates to the Village of Deer Creek's Village Clerk, the Village of Deer Creek's Village Board voted to block and deny access to the event on September 2nd, 2008, just prior to the event taking place. The above dash plaque stands as testimont to the fact we were prepared for the event and had everything in place as advertised. But the event regretably had to be cancelled this year, so this dash plaque, one of 100 produced, is a rarity.
We appologize to all concerned for this happening this year and hopefully you see thru the rumor and rederick of others in the fact that we were out a lot of money due to this cancellation. Some say that Thomas W. Rogers acted alone, but Scott Newman and other volunteers listed on this web site, plus others, all worked very hard to provide everyone a wonderful 2008 event. It's just unfortunate that politics and misunderstandings brought the event to a halt this year.
Those of us who want this event to continue are examining ways to move on from here while attempting to limit the scope of the publicity and organization down to a size that the Village of Deer Creek Illinois can better deal with in the current political environment. The emails we have received to date from classic car owners tell us that everyone wants this event to continue in the future, but there are concerns about Thomas W. Rogers being involved as a result of what took place this year. Accordingly, he has offered to provide funding for the event to continue and hopes that some kind of arrangement can be established to better organize this event well into the future.
We are currently seeking an individual who might want to be an organizer for next year's event and would be willing to put forth that effort per what ever the Village of Deer Creek authorizes before February 1st, 2009. Otherwise, we could loose Deer Creek Cruising Classics altogether.
